Internship information
General Farm Description: "Red Door Family Farm is a Certified Organic small diversified farm in Athens, Wisconsin. We grow 10 acres of vegetables, fruits, and mushrooms for CSA, Farmers Markets, and local Restaurant sales. Our CSA program is always our first priority. Our 120 members are committed to our farm and therefore we make our commitment to them to always give them our best. We have four hoop houses allowing for a large capacity for season extension, long term storage crops, and the highest quality tomatoes. As farmers, we believe in making a food system that support rural communities, promotes health, and is sustainable economically and environmentally. We hire full and part-time positions, have a "tiny house" available for on farm living, and are approved for a two year, nationally recognized apprenticeship program run though Fairshare Coalition. Se Habla espanol."

Internship Details:

“Interns will be paid fairly, have access to farm food, a tiny house for living, and be involved in all daily activities on the farm. Because we have a small crew everyone on the farm has the opportunity to do every task and get direct feedback from the farmers.”

Educational Opportunities: "All interns and employees at our farm are encouraged to learn the "why" to the tasks that we are doing. We take the time at the beginning of the season to teach interns how to use our tractors and implements, proper harvest and washing techniques, and vegetable storage. It is our belief that the more we teach, the better our farm will be and the easier it will run when the busiest season arrives. We are also an approved farm to host apprentices with the first nationally accredited organic farming apprenticeship program. The program is two years, requires some course work, and is sponsored through the Fairshare Coalition. Call or email for details. "

Skills Desired: "We do not require any farm experience but applicants must have the following skills: A good attitude, a willingness to work in all conditions, an ability to bend over for long periods of time, an ability to lift 50 pounds consistently, a desire to continue to improve, an ability to keep pace while maintaining quality standards. "

Meals: A kitchen is available in the tiny house to prepare your own meals. Farm food is available. We share Tuesday lunch with the crew and workershares at the main house.
