Internship information
General Farm Description: "We primarily grow 2 acres of annual cut flowers and 2 acres of perennial cut flowers. On a smaller scale we grow perennial fruits, veggies, pasture raised chicken and pork. We use organic practices however are not certified. Our farm is located in Michigan's Upper Peninsula just 20 miles away from Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and 6 miles from Lake Superior. The North Country Trail runs along our fields and through 50,000 acres of Hiawatha National Forest that surrounds our farm. We have been cultivating our land since 2009, building our infrastructure with sustainability in mind. Our irrigation is run, off grid, by a solar powered water tower. Our propagation greenhouse has two 6,000gal tanks of water for solar mass, as well as heated prop benches. All of our compost is made on site from fish offal collected from local fisheries and local woodchips, we call Fish and chips compost. "

Internship Details:

“Full time, Mon-Fri with optional Saturday Farmers Market. Start time fluctuates through out the season. Typical day is 8-5 with 1 hour for lunch. “

Educational Opportunities: "We enjoy sharing every aspect of our farm. Education Opportunities include learning about: Compost, irrigation set up, using a tractor with implements, season extension, greenhouse management, organic pest control including IPM, all aspects of growing and harvesting what we grow, cooking, flower arranging, and so much more. "

Skills Desired: Some previous farm experience is desired but not necessary. Every farm is unique and with this in mind we will teach you the skills needed for our farm. All we ask is that you can lift 50 lbs. or more and have a good work ethic.

Meals: Mon-Fri Breakfast and lunch are provided. We have a stocked outdoor kitchen available for your use.

Stipend: Based on Expierence with access to produce and meat

Housing: "One Camper provided, single bedroom only. Lots of room for tenting as well. Outdoor shower also available. "
