Internship information
General Farm Description: "Rolling River is a 6-acre organic farm, nursery and permaculture. homestead located in the Klamath mountains of northern California along the Klamath River. We are surrounded by National Forest rich in wildlife and botanical diversity. Our program offers a unique opportunity for people to learn about and experience a mature and dynamic fruit/food forest filled with an immense diversity of plants that also integrates animals into its system.

We are developing sustainable and permaculture systems throughout our homestead. Our farm has a wide diversity of about 400 fruit and nut trees as well as berries, grapes, kiwis, a very large home vegetable garden, flowers and herbs.

We run a local Organic container plant nursery for the edible landscape. We grow many standard and unusual fruit and nut trees, citrus and other sub-tropical produce, vines, shrubs, berries and ground covers. We most recently sold our online business www.rollingrivernursery.com to the non-profit Planting Justice in the Bay area, but are still maintaining a local on site nursery now as well as the diverse mother-plantings that the nursery was based on.. We live here with our 9 year old son who we home-school and who is a big help on the farm. We also have a flock of 30 chickens, 10 ducks, a dairy and meat heard of 10 goats, 10-15 turkeys, 3-5 beehives, 3 dogs and 3 cats.

We are passionate about preserving plant diversity, homesteading and homeschooling, the outdoors, simple sustainable living, eating healthy, and a TV free environment. In our leisure time we enjoy doing fun things with our kids, hiking in the mountains, making music, swimming in the river and working on craft projects."
