“Summary of Position: We are looking for dedicated and hardworking individual to help us fill one of three full-time positions at SMIP Ranch beginning in April through the end of December. Additionally, part-time and possibly full-time work will be needed in January and February, dependent on the winter season. The position is a great opportunity to grow produce on a working production farm, and to work with our customers directly – the chefs and CSA members who purchase our product.
Educational Opportunities: "The Farm Worker will share in responsibilities that include but are not limited to the following: CSA program coordination, harvesting, irrigation set-up and maintenance, direct seeding, watering, weeding, pest control, soil amendment and fertility, hoop house propagation, transplanting, washing and packing of produce, delivery, farm maintenance, possible tractor work, chicken duties (egg collection, watering and feeding chickens, moving chicken tractor, and cleaning). In addition to gaining skills on the above named tasks the Farm Worker is also encouraged to attend local CRAFT farmers group meetings/classes on different topics alongside SMIP's Farm Manager."
Skills Desired: "Qualifications: At least 1 year of experience working on a farm, Available to work 45-55 hours per week; peak season will require more hours per week and winter will require less. Available to commit for the 2018-19 growing season (through February 2019) with the possibility of continuing into the coming season, CA Drivers License and good driving record for delivery, Will require some evening work and partial weekend work, Tractor experience or willingness to learn a plus, Due to remoteness of farm, having a personal vehicle is usually necessary. Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift 50 lbs., Ability to stand and kneel for long periods of time performing repetitive tasks, Ability to work long hours in all weather conditions. Skills: Organized with strong attention to detail and ability to multitask, Harvesting experience preferred, Willingness to learn new things and share knowledge and skill, Ability to take initiative and ask questions when needed, Ability to work as a member of a team and have fun! "
Meals: Free organic produce and pasture raised eggs (dependent on availability) for personal consumption.
Stipend: "$2,000 stipend/month "
Housing: "There is the option to live on the farm in a trailer near our tranquil, spring-fed pond where you can enjoy swimming, relaxing, and fishing after a hard days work. There may also be the possibility of housing in our renovated barn as well. Access to a shared kitchen, laundry machines, and bathroom is available.
