General Farm Description: "Sandbox Organics is a growing certified Organic farm located an hour and a half northwest of Chicago in Hebron, Illinois. We raise a wide range of high quality vegetables for our Chicago based Farm Share program, farmer's market, and restaurants, as well as cut flowers and pastured hogs. We are a young farm, entering our fifth growing season. We are working on developing an environmentally and financially sustainable farm business that supports its workers and community through meaningful work and nutritious food. We are looking for part and full time seasonal workers to help with daily farm tasks for the 2019 season. Positions start early April and go through the end of October."

Internship Details:

“Components of Job:

Daily field work, including: greenhouse seeding, transplanting, row-covering, weeding, harvesting, maintaining hand-tools, and applying Organically approved inputs.
Washing and packing produce
Tasks pertaining to hog production including feeding and watering, maintaining fencing, and moving them to new pasture
Cleaning fields at end of season
Working outdoors in all weather conditions
Lifting objects up to 50 lbs
Taking and following verbal instructions from farm manager
Supervising Worker Share members”


Educational Opportunities: Farm employees will have access to CRAFT field days as well as the opportunity to engage with other small farms in the Farm Business Development Center.

Skills Desired: Desired Skills:<br> -Preferably at least one full season on a vegetable farm or other farm experience<br> -Ability to meet physical demands of the job<br> -Ability to work efficiently while maintaining attention to detail and quality control<br> -Good verbal communication skills and ability to follow directions<br> -Great attitude and work ethic<br> -Ability to work independently <br> -Enthusiastic about Organic agriculture

Meals: Farm employees receive their own weekly CSA box as well as any "seconds" produce.

Stipend: Hourly wage commensurate with experience
