General Farm Description: "Steady Hand Farm is the diversified vegetable farm of Jason and Juli Montgomery-Riess. We raise 4-acres of produce on a 70-Acre farm situated in the mixed pine birch forests and lake country of Polk County near St. Croix Falls and Amery, WI. We sell mostly direct to consumers through our 85 member CSA, and at the St. Croix Falls Farmer's Market. <br><br> Our production is driven by a land ethic centered around building resilient soil. We utilize cover cropping and compost to provide a healthy soil environment. Internship Details:

“Join Steady Hand Farm for the 2018 Season! Our interns will learn the ins and outs of a small-scale diversified, vegetable farm. Working along with us, you will undertake all of the day-to-day aspect of vegetable production. Seeding, planting, weeding, harvesting, packing and washing. You will also work on special projects on farm. We have full and part time positions available.”

Educational Opportunities: "We want all of our crew members to have a successful experience while working with us. We will make sure you know how to safely perform any task we ask of you. You will learn about all aspects of this work while doing it. Hand weeding carrots and bunching scallions provides lots of time to talk about everything under the sun, including the vagaries of raising vegetables for a living. You will be a part of or exposed to cover cropping, crop rotation, succession planting, weed management, tractor cultivation, irrigation, harvest, post-harvest handling, food safety and more..."

Skills Desired: "We prefer interns have some experience gardening or raising vegetables, however the most important things we are looking for are folks who can get along with others, and who are motivated to work. Having a pleasant attitude through the easy and hard times is essential."

Meals: Interns are responsible for their own meals. We do allow you full access to our produce for making meals. We have kitchen available to keep and make food.

Stipend: We pay between $10 and $12 per hour based on experience. You also have access to our produce for your own use.

Housing: We will not be providing housing in 2019.
