Internship informationGeneral Farm Description: Fernbrook Farm CSA located in Chesterfield, Burlington County New Jersey is looking for Farm Apprentices for the 2020 season - our 14th! We farm chemical-free on about 20 acres of a larger 250 acre property. We have a 26 week main season CSA, a farmers' market, a winter share, and wholesale and delivery accounts. We also raise pigs on pasture for our annual pork sale. We have graduated 30 Apprentices since 2007, many of whom are actively farming throughout the United States. We are currently seeking qualified candidates to join our 2020 farm crew.

Apprentices work full-time from early April to early December and are involved with practically all jobs on the farm. The goal is for you to help the farm operate, and for us to give you the skills, knowledge, resources, tools, and contacts to pursue a future in sustainable farming. Our 30 alumni Apprentices have gone on to start farms, work at other farms, work for extension services and so on. We’re proud of our track record training future farmers and we’re equally appreciative of the hard-work and energy they have give to our farm.
Educational Opportunities: In addition to weekly meetings and farm tours, Apprentices are given opportunities every month to attend relevant workshops, conferences, and farm tours to enhance their farm experience. (We are participants in the NJCRAFT network). We also cover topics such as crop planning, budgeting, procuring equipment and growing supplies etc. Apprentices will receive written copies of relevant info. as well as assistance pursuing their post-Fernbrook goals.
Skills Desired: We are seeking candidates for our established Apprenticeship program. Farming experience is helpful but not required. We do require enthusiasm, a solid work ethic, and a desire to spend a full season on the farm while learning the ins and outs of how the farm operates.
Meals: Apprentices are entitled to all the produce they need from the farm (including enough to 'stock up'). They also receive a credit at our farm store and can make purchases at cost.
Stipend: Yes, there is a monthly stipend.
Housing: Housing is provided in nearby Bordentown (only 3 miles away).
