Internship informationGeneral Farm Description: Front Axle Farm is a diverse, organic vegetable operation selling to downtown Columbus restaurants and through a CSA. With seven years of growing experience (two years at this location) we bring a professional approach to our production systems. We use appropriate technology, small machinery and tools suited to our size and systems. We grow approximately 35 different crops, ranging from: salad greens, cooking greens, and small root vegetables (radish, beet, carrots) in the spring; tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, sweet corn and watermelons in the summer; and winter squash, storage onions and more greens and root veggies in the fall.

The Production Assistant will be an integral part of all farm tasks, including: seeding, greenhouse care, transplanting, cultivation, harvesting, and post-harvest washing and packing. The Production Assistant will generally work closely with the farm manager, but will also work independently and must possess a strong drive and an attention to detail. Ideal applicants are motivated, responsible and hardworking, with a commitment to working smart and hard, rather than just hard.
Skills Desired: - Must have reliable access to transportation to and from farm. - Strong communication skills.n- Ability to follow complex instructions and hear constructive criticism until task is performed in the proper manner. - Must be adaptable. While we always strive to have clear systems and standard operating procedures in place, the ever changing conditions on a farm (weather, pests, changing whims of buyers) means that we Must be able to change our approach as needed to optimize productivity and output.

Stipend: Salary will be commensurate with experience, $9-12 /hr.
