General Farm Description: Amaltheia Organic Dairy is a family run farm located just outside of Bozeman, Montana in the foothills of the Bridger Mountains. We are a certified organic farm that has been handcrafting award winning goat cheeses for over 20 years. We utilize our by-products, creating our own compost, as well as grow a wide variety of vegetables. Our vegetable production consists of 9 acres, 5 high tunnels and 5 cat tunnels. We sell wholesale to grocery stores, select restaurants, two local farmers markets and began a CSA in 2022. This posting is for the vegetable production portion of the farm.CRAFT Member Farm? No

Internship Details:
We are seeking a Greenhouse & Field Manager for the 2023 season and beyond. For all of our positions we are looking for people who are positive, hard and fast workers, who easily take on responsibilities, and can work productively both in groups and individually. This is a full time position, Late February – November with the option for year-round work. We are only accepting applicants that can commit to the full season with preference for applicants that would like to commit for at least 2 seasons.
Greenhouse & Field Manager responsibilities include:

Leading a crew (ranging from 1 – 10 people) in greenhouse & field related tasks

Plant Sale Manager – planning, seeding, potting on, setting up market and being the face of the plant sale every Saturday in May

Baby leaf succession management: transplanting, row covering, weeding and irrigating

Coordinating greenhouse/field work with farm owner and other production crew members

Watering, seeding, transplanting and crop maintenance

Maintenance and harvest of the herb garden & u-pick

General maintenance and cleanliness/organization of greenhouses – example: weed whacking around greenhouses

Irrigation set up/break down and keeping to a watering schedule
This position is:
80% greenhouse work / 20% harvest & field work from March – June
20% greenhouse work / 80% harvest & field work from July – February
Educational Opportunities: We will have twice monthly catered lunches created with produce, cheese and pork from the farm. Each Fourth of July we do a farm "float down", firing up the pizza oven before we head tube down the Madison River as a crew. We plan to have a CSA members only pot luck/tour of the farm as well as a Farm to Table dinner. A kickball game with other farm crews in the Gallatin Valley. Large Volunteer Harvests in October to get all of our root crops out of the ground. Between 50 - 100 folks from the community showed up last season on each volunteer day! End of season potluck and bonfire.
Skills Desired: Greenhouse & Field Manager requirements include: Minimum 2 years of organic vegetable farming experience Minimum 1 year of experience managing employees Strong, foundational understanding of food production systems having experience with seasonality, plant propagation and seedling care, plant life cycles, scouting for pests and diseases, harvest and post-harvest handling, farmers markets, etc. Punctuality and reliability is a must Strong communication and leadership skills Willingness to “wear multiple hats” and contribute to other aspects of the farm Attention to detail Self-starter, ability to work with a sense of urgency and maintain a swift pace Drivers license and reliable transportation to work Ability to operate a manual transmission Ability to hook up, load and back up a trailer - preferred Experience driving a skid steer; forklift - preferred Ability to lift 50 lbs repeatedly and consistently without strain
Meals: You will receive an employee CSA box each week which includes vegetables and goat cheese. We also have twice monthly catered lunches and frequent pot lucks using our wood fired pizza oven!
Stipend: Pay is $17/hr or DOE with paid lunches
