Internship information
General Farm Description: Gwenyn Hill Farm is a 450-acre farm situated in the rolling hills of the Kettle Moraine in Southeast Wisconsin, about 30 minutes West of Milwaukee. We grow Certified Organic vegetables, fruits, herbs, and flowers, and raise grass-fed beef and lamb, an organic dairy herd, and pastured organic laying hens. We primarily sell to our customers via our 240-member CSA, on-farm store, the Brookfield Farmers Market, and a small wholesale business, making us hyper-local. The farm began operations in earnest in 2018, so we are constantly growing and changing.CRAFT Member Farm? No

Internship Details:
We are looking for one-three people to join our Farm Crew. This person would work with our management team, crew leaders, and farm staff to perform day-to-day operations on the farm. This work includes but is not limited to: greenhouse production, planting, weeding, harvesting, mulching, trellising, washing, packing, CSA customer service, gathering eggs, working with livestock, maintaining the orchard, general farm maintenance such as mowing, and accurate record-keeping. The work is very physical and is performed under all weather conditions. You must be able to work alone or in a group and be conscious of efficiency and quality. Operation of machinery such as tractors or skid steers is not required, but willingness to learn is preferred. Se habla español.
Educational Opportunities: Working on an organic farm means that you will be in a constant state of learning. Every day provides new tasks, new challenges, and new opportunities. We grow 75 different vegetables. Learning how to plant, transplant, care for, harvest, wash, pack, and cook these vegetables can be a challenge in itself.
Skills Desired: Applicants for the Farm Crew position should have at least one year of related experience caring for plants, either at another farm, or at a greenhouse or nursery. You must be able to lift 50 pounds. We are interested in employees who have a desire to work here for more than one year, with opportunities for additional responsibilities and pay raises.
Meals: Employees are expected to bring their own meals, and to eat a sufficient breakfast to power them through their morning activities. There is a one-hour unpaid lunch break.
Stipend: Work hours are generally Monday-Friday from 8 am to 6 pm. Tuesdays and Thursdays are CSA pickup days, so from May through October, we may work until closer to 7 pm on those days. Occasionally we will ask you to stay late to finish a time-bound task, or to work on a Saturday, especially if there is a weather event predicted for the following Monday. Overtime is not paid to agricultural workers in Wisconsin. The starting wage for all employees will be at least $12 an hour and will increase with experience.
Housing: Employees will need to secure their own housing as well as a reliable means of transportation to and from the farm.
