Internship informationGeneral Farm Description: Ironwood Farm is an 8.5 acre, certified organic vegetable farm located in Ghent, NY. Our farm is run by two women owners providing for their families, Lauren Jones (she/her) and Aliyah Brandt (she/her), and one stellar full time manager Nora Feldhusen (she/her). This farm is a true example of an attempt at family integration into the farm and work-life balance! We are excited to work side by side with our employees, empowering them to learn new skills to help towards their own futures as farmers. We sell our produce in farmer's markets, CSA shares (community supported agriculture), and wholesale to restaurants, shops and resellers in the Hudson Valley. We want to be stewards of the land that hosts Ironwood Farm, while feeding ourselves and our community. We're learning about how to support healthy ecosystem processes while running a viable business.

Farm Crew Member @ Ironwood Farm
Ironwood Farm is looking for two full-time crew members for the 2020 season.
This year, Aliyah and her wife Molly welcomed new baby Poppy into the world, and last year Lauren and her husband Jonney welcomed their second kiddo Hazel. As owners with young families, we hold flexibility for ourselves and aim to grow and sell vegetables in a work environment that feels safe, reasonable and human.
We are all looking to 2020 with excitement. Goals in formation include experiments with occultation through tarping to decrease weed pressure, the addition of a waterwheel transplanter, and fresh organization and management focus by our returning crew member Nora! This is an opportunity for farmers to hone their skills as part of a small business team and a 2-family farming partnership. We hustle hard and have fun during the season.
Compensation: $14/hr. We give all crew members access to whatever vegetables they want for personal use throughout the season. No on-farm housing is available.
These positions include 2 paid sick days in the season.
We’re looking for team members who have had at least 1-2 full seasons previous vegetable farming experience. Some tractor and general management experience preferred. We hope to work with folks who are reliable, like to collaborate, and are ok with working in all weather conditions.
For marketing work, candidate will be driving our 12′ delivery box truck. We require a clean driving record so that drivers can be covered by our truck insurance.
This job generally requires lifting between 25-50 lbs.
Tasks throughout the season including but not limited to harvest & processing, packing, seeding, trellising, cultivation, transplanting & vegetable sales & delivery. We all work together, moving as a small and focused team.
There are openings in the 2020 season for crew member focus & attention in the following areas:
-Tractor work including basic training on both tractors (IH 274 & 784), bucket operation, harvest cart driving, mowing, tillage, cover cropping
-Fieldhouse Crops for all seasons
