General Farm Description: Meadowlark Farm is located in beautiful Leelanau County, just a few miles from Lake Michigan and the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Meadowlark is 20 acres that are certified organic. We currently actively farm 7 acres and 3 hoophouses. We've been farming in Leelanau county for 25 years and are the longest running organic CSA farm in Northern Michigan. We have a large summer CSA as well as extended season shares in winter and spring. We also sell vegetables, cut flowers and herbs to local restaurants and grocery stores.

Internship Details:

Meadowlark is looking for someone eager to either deepen or begin her/his/their farming experience with opportunities to participate in various realms of a thriving, successful, experienced organic farm. We grow vegetables, herbs and cut flowers. Work in greenhouse, hoophouses, planting vegetables and cut flowers, cultivating, irrigation, harvesting for CSA as well as local wholesale to small groceries, co-op and restaurants.

We grow our own plants in a heated greenhouse, cultivate baby ginger, garlic, heirloom tomatoes, many mixed vegetables, herbs and cut flowers. We support a thriving certified organic CSA, the longest running in Northern Michigan. We expect farm workers to have a positive attitude, be hard working, able to work in all weather conditions,be happiest outdoors, be open-minded, flexible, creative, curious, willing to take direction, eager to learn, able to work with people of varying ages, able to lift 40#. Previous hiking/camping experience or prior outdoors work a plus.

We expect a commitment to the full season, 40-45 hours/week Monday-Friday, 8:00-5:00. Weekends are 100% yours. We do not have interns work on weekends except for the annual harvest party in late September. On farm housing available in recently renovated granary. Shared space with 2 other farm workers, you will have a private, heated bedroom. The granary is cozy, warm and welcoming.

Educational Opportunities: As the longest running certified organic CSA farm in Northern Michigan, we have a lot of experience to share.

Skills Desired: Previous farm experience not necessary, but willingness to learn is. Prior hiking/camping experience or outdoors work other than farming a plus.

Stipend: "$10-11/ hour(depending on experience) in addition to free on farm housing, fresh organic vegetables, fruit, herbs and eggs."

Housing: On farm housing in recently renovated granary in the heart of the farmstead, rustic but comfortable. Private bedroom, shared living room, kitchen, outdoor shower and 2 outhouses. Internet included. Heat in all rooms plus wood stove in the commons. Housing for farm workers only. No pets allowed.
