Internship informationGeneral Farm Description: Morning Star Farm is a small farm on Orcas Island, WA growing organic vegetables, fruit, and flowers. The farm includes 20 acres of forested land, 1.5 acres of intensive vegetable production, a large pond, a small fruit orchard, and several acres of sloping pasture.

Work on the farm includes seeding, transplanting, cultivating, irrigating, harvesting, preparing produce and flowers for market, composting, delivering produce to restaurants and selling at the farmer’s market, and forestry work. We aim to create a working environment with ample opportunities to learn skills and practices necessary for the stewardship of a small farm. Work entails physical labor and early mornings, repetitive, and sometimes challenging tasks in all kinds of weather.
Educational Opportunities: Interns will gain experience will all aspects of our farm and hopefully leave with an understanding of the skills needed to run a small farm and homestead.
Skills Desired: We ask for the desire to work hard, good communication skills, a sense of humor, attention to detail, ability to comfortably lift up to 50 lbs, and a willingness to work with all personalities.
Housing: There are several small cabins available for housing on the property. Each is equipped with basic cooking facilities and a wood stove. There is an outdoor shower and a composting toilet nearby. The barn functions as a communal space with a full kitchen, wood stove, and a large living area.
