General Farm Description: One Leaf Farm is a seven-acre mixed vegetable farm run by Rand Rasheed. We use sustainable and organic growing methods. One Leaf sells its produce at the Ballard Farmers Market, to Seattle-area restaurants, and a collectively run CSA. We're a production focused farm, we love working hard and growing lots of food. We run a lean operation. The work day is packed with activity, and everyone on the farm has a role. We strive to hone our production systems for optimum efficiency, streamlining operations to reduce waste and get a lot done at work, so we can have a balanced work/life schedule. Internship Details:

We offer only hourly positions, part-time (20hr/week) and full-time (40-45hr/week) available. This is an entry-level position, with opportunity for advancement. We want to create viable careers in agriculture in our community. Seasonal crew positions available, ideal candidates are those who are seeking multi-year long term employment.

Under the direction of the Farm Owner and Farm Manager, the Crew Member is responsible for helping in daily farm tasks such as harvesting, weeding, planting, tending to crops, and cleaning.

The more initiative you take and interest you show the more responsibility you will be entrusted with and the more you'll learn. Depending on your ability and interest you may be participating in greenhouse seeding, selling at the farmers market, and irrigation duties.

We repeat the same tasks each week; within a short amount of time, you'll be able to execute assigned tasks with minimal instructions. After spending a full season on our farm, you will learn much of what is necessary to run a small-scale vegetable farm.

Educational Opportunities: Our education method is hands-on; you will learn by doing. We also offer suggestions for books and seed catalogs to read and study, the same ones we've used to help us get started. The farm's crop plan will be shared with all team members. Ongoing discussion about farm topics, and question asking highly encouraged.

Meals: Everyone is responsible for their own meals, but welcome to any excess farm produce.

Stipend: $12.00-$13.00 per hour. DOE Federal Income Tax will be automatically withheld from each paycheck, along with Social Security and Medicare contribution. One Leaf Farm will contribute to L&I Worker's Compensation Insurance, State Unemployment Insurance, Paid Sick Leave, Paid Family & Medical Leave. Performance-based bonus will be awarded to crew members at the end of the season. Second-year employees receive a share of the farm's revenue.

Housing: Housing is not available on the farm.
