General Farm Description: Round River Resource Management is hiring 2-3 highly motivated individuals for our summer intern program and one 2-year apprenticeship to work on the Brett Gray located near Rush, Colorado and the BX Ranch located near Pueblo, Colorado. Desired applicants should be industrious, innovative, have a strong desire to learn and be interested in sustainable ranching and resource management practices. Round River Resource Management,LLC provides management and consulting services to land and livestock owners. Its partners are dedicated to managing ranches and their natural resources for long-term economic and ecological sustainability and are currently responsible for managing over 120,000 acres on the eastern plains of Colorado. The successful candidates will have the opportunity to learn and participate in all aspects of the ranch operations and enterprise development, and will hopefully develop an appreciation for conservation and sustainable ranch management practices. Round River currently manages a 400 hd. cow-calf operation and grazes approximately 2000 hd. of yearlings through the summer on the Brett Gray with the BX Ranch currently serving as a winter grazing operation with approximately 700 hd. being grazed during the dormant season In addition, we annually host 2-3 student interns, offer several educational field trips and tours. Currently, the ranch is looking to develop other enterprises that will compliment current operations on the ranch. These could include enterprises such as grass-finishing, meat and milk goat production, honey bees, farmers markets as well as other educational and recreational opportunities. The Brett Gray Ranch is a 50,000 acre ranch currently leased and managed by Round River from the Colorado State Land Board. In partnership with the State Land Board and The Nature Conservancy, Round River has a three-part goal to maintain a productive and sustainable ranching operation, encourage science and stewardship that maintains biodiversity and a sustainable prairie ecosystem, and to support education and community outreach to appreciate and support effective conservation of prairie ecosystems through responsible ranching. The BX Ranch is a 25,000 acre ranch being leased and managed by Round River from Lyme Timber Company, a private conservation investment company. We collaborate with Lyme Timber, The Savory Institute and The Nature Conservancy in an attempt to improve upon the natural resource base and develop a replicable ranch management model centered on a holistic decision making approach. Internship Details:

Interns will have the opportunity to learn and participate in all aspects of the ranch operations and enterprise development, and will hopefully develop an appreciation for conservation and sustainable ranch management practices.

Learning opportunities include but are not limited to:
First Year:
– grazing planning and management;
– Stockmanship, livestock handling and animal health and nutrition
– rangeland monitoring
– general maintenance of equipment and facilities
– enterprise budgeting,planning and development
Second Year:
– Whole Ranch Planning
– Advanced education through Ranching for Profit or Holistic Management International
– Independently Developed Enterprise Modeling


Educational Opportunities: Round River Resource Management offers internships lasting from three month to one year and has an intensive 2-year apprenticeship program designed to provided opportunities to enter ranching and land management. Educational opportunities will vary with the interest of the intern and the length of stay. Management will work individually with intern to develop educational plan to suit the intern.

Skills Desired: Innovative, industrious individuals with a desire to learn are preferred. A strong interest in sustainable ranching and resource management practices is highly desirable.

Meals: $100 grocery allowance

Stipend: Starts at $700/month, Variable and dependent upon experience and length of stay.
