Internship informationGeneral Farm Description: ound the Bend Farm, a Center for Restorative Community, is a 94-acre fully diversified working small farm and educational non-profit acting as “a living laboratory that cultivates, educates, and empowers people of all ages." We are devoted to the global paradigm shift toward hope and abundance through our mission of valuing diversity, modeling nature, and redefining wealth. We use a synthetic-free philosophy that incorporates elements of permaculture, biodynamics and soil remineralization practices to raise a number of crops to support our internal organization, sustainable on-farm living community and educational projects, in addition to sourcing ecologically conscious events in our space and a small amount of excess direct customer sales. We produce in an integrated system that yields annual vegetables, perennial crops, berries, tree fruit, medicinal herbs and livestock and meat.

We are looking specifically for someone to be involved with all aspects of growing agricultural produce at the farm — primarily annual vegetables, perennial crops and medicinal herbs. Duties may include: seed sowing, nursery care, soil preparation, transplanting, weeding and cultivation, perennial care, greenhouse crops, harvesting, seed saving, propagation, food storage and food processing.
The work in this position will be performed daily under the direction and cooperation of the RTB Garden Manager. To a great degree this will occur outdoors directly in the farm’s garden system; however, this position may also include participation in shared community cooking, food preservation, monthly Open Farm Day events, and occasional support of other intersectional farm projects as needed.

Educational Opportunities: We use a broad and holistic agriculture approach that incorporates and synergizes elements of permaculture, biodynamic practices and soil mineralization perspectives. Learning operational knowledge in these spheres will be an essential component of the work entailed in this position, in addition to formulating and honing a repertoire of efficient small scale growing and cultivating practices; with a focus on developing independent confidence. Additionally, within the farm context and living organism, there is direct daily access to a range of ongoing, hands-on, in-practice sustainable life skills.
Skills Desired: Preference for candidates with at least 1-2 years agricultural production or significant gardening experience though willing to work with individuals of clearly demonstrated passion and motivation to learn quickly.
Meals: Yes, access to food and (in general) three prepared meals a day -- made mostly from farm fresh produce -- will be provided as part of compensation. You can't buy the quality of the food we grow in the grocery. We eat very well.
Stipend: Dependent on experience, not less than $1000 per month
Housing: Yes, private living space in a rustic tiny house (basic electricity and heat), full access to communal kitchen, library space and laundry facility.
