Internship information
General Farm Description: The Alleged Farm, located 30 miles north of Albany in rural Washington County, uses organic practices to produce a wide array of vegetables, herbs and small fruits for sale through a CSA and farmers' market. This is our 26th season. We place a serious emphasis on the quality of the food we grow and on creating connections between the farm and the people who eat the fruits and vegetables of our labor. We also take our commitment to our community seriously. We have placed a conservation easement on our land to ensure that it remains in agriculture, helping to sustain the rural nature of our town. And we donate our extra produce to food pantries in our region.

Internship Details:

I seek workers willing to commit to the remainder of the season who are excited to learn about farming, unafraid of hard work, willing to ask questions, and have a sense of humor

The job involves every aspect of small-scale vegetable production, from starting seedlings in the greenhouse to selling at farmers’ market. Most of the time is spent cranking through the seemingly endless list of physically demanding, repetitive tasks required to produce a crop and pack it out on schedule. That said, we take pains to make sure the work is sustainable and sometimes even enjoyable. We try to work regular hours, and find time to talk, think, and take pride in what we produce.

Educational Opportunities: Meetings and farm tours with the local sustainable agriculture networking group.

Skills Desired: Farm experience not absolutely necessary, but willingness to work hard, reliability, strong back, driver's license and sense of humor required.

Meals: No, but workers have free access tofarm produce, and can barter some farm produce at market for other local goods.

Stipend: $1750 a month and all the beets you can eat.

Housing: Yes. There is fully independent on-farm housing.

Preferred method of Contact: E-mail
