We are seeking 2 Summer positions through VISTA AmeriCorps to support Wind Dance Farm and Earth Education Center in Berkeley Springs, WV. Support will be both working on the farm and working with our summer camps for youth.
Wind Dance is an established non-profit organization offering five-week long summer camps.
We guide campers in exploring nature, play, wildcrafting, regenerative organic farming, and environmental stewardship.
The position is ten weeks, June 6, 2022 through August 12, 2022. There are 3-day camps and 2 overnight camps – each camp is one week. The position is a combination of working with youth during camps, farm support in the gardens, caring for chickens and goats, and helping to prep for camps. Campers, especially overnight campers, are active with farm related tasks and cooking meals with food from the gardens. Campers also explore wildcrafting and food preservation. There is an option to stay on the farm for the ten weeks or a variation of the ten weeks. We offer a Yurt Tent and during overnight camps all meals are provided. Use of the kitchen in our education center is available. VISTA provides a weekly stipend and tuition support.

Educational Opportunities: We can explore offering college internship, but will need to work that out with the college. This would be a new adventure for us, but something we have been planning to pursue.
Skills Desired: Experience working with youth, and being open to assist with farm tasks and with summer camps is key. A plus is nature, wilderness, and/or environmental education experience.
Meals: During the two overnight youth camps all meals are provided. The other eight weeks are not. Use of the kitchen in the education center will be available.
Stipend: VISTA AmeriCorp offers a stipend of $2395.40 for ten weeks, plus either a $345 or education award of 1311.00 at the end of the ten weeks. There is an option for a nine-week position. Wind Dance will also give a bonus after the VISTA positions are complete and the amount will be determined by the support we receive from you. It could be as much as an additional $800.00.
Housing: We have a Yurt Tent on a platform available, camping is available, and when we are not in camp sessions, there is opportunity to stay in the education center.
