General Description: Tune Farm is a certified organic 3 acre vegetable farm run by 3 fantastic folks. We sell our produce at two weekly farmers markets in Huntsville, Alabama and run a small CSA program. We do use a tractor very sparingly to prepare some of the tougher beds, but the rest of our work is done manually with our hands and hand-tools.
Internship Starts: March 2011
Internship Ends: October 2011
Number of Interns: 2
Minimum Length of Stay: 2 weeks
Meals: All food is communal and meal preparation is shared. We also experiment with fermentation- e.g. kombucha, kefir, sourdough, ginger beer and cheese- and homemade bread is always available.
Skills Desired: No experience is necessary by any means (but always welcomed). We just expect folks ready to do (many) an honest hard day's work. Let us take a moment to stress the hard work- while it is almost always fun here the work can be backbreaking. So be prepared to get real dirty, sweaty and tired. ***This 2011 season we are extremely interested in hosting any skilled workers (fermenters, brewers, carpenters, herbalists, etc...- particularly folks that have experience building cob ovens. We'd love to have one at the farm!***
Educational Opportunities: We are looking for volunteers who have a strong interest in learning to grow delicious food and become more self-sustainable while participating in an open-minded, queer-friendly, socially-conscious community.
Stipend: No stipend available at this time.
Housing: We have two rooms available in the house itself and ample spots around the farm perfect for tent camping or barn squatting- your choice!
Preferred method Of Contact: Email or phone
Internship Details: Your time here will be spent planting, hoeing, weeding (a lot!), harvesting and any farm-related tasks we come across during your stay- and of course there is plenty of knowledge-sharing, storytelling and music-playing- so bring your stories, bring your instruments and let's spend part of the season together!
