General Description: Wye Mountain has been a cut-flower farm since 1998 selling fresh flowers at farmer's market, and wholesale to florist and specialty stores. In 2011, the farm opened a u-pick operation with blackberries, raspberries, and fresh cut flowers. The farm is not organic but we try to learn and use natural and sustainable methods when practical. We are interested in sharing our knowledge and experience with someone who has a genuine interest in small farm operations. Opportunity is available for such person to work along side experienced farmers and also to help develop other farm offerings such as but not limited to fresh vegetable production.

Meals: Some shared meals available with host family. Preparation and clean-up duties will be shared by everyone. Must be totally responsible for picking up and cleaning-up after oneself.

Skills Desired: Someone with a mature and serious attitude who is desiring to gain knowledge and experience while being a valuable co-worker and assistant to the farmers and their other workers. Our farm would require intern's physical labor 30+ hours/week and remaining time can be for their interests or attending farmers markets. Education in agriculture, plant or environmental courses and or actual farm experience (such as with farm equipment or animals) would be a big plus.

Educational Opportunities:
--Customer service experience both on farm and at retail venues.
--Field work such as succession plantings, preparing for markets, pest and weed control, tractor work and irrigation systems.

Stipend: Stipend will be based on 30 hour work week minus room & board.

Housing: Bedroom with shared bath. Includes use of family swimming pool when the farm is not open.

Internship Details:
1) Would have opportunity to develop their own niche market such as pastured poultry, vegetable farming, mushroom farming. and/or goat dairy. Intern's harvest could be sold at our farm and/or in our farmer's market

2) Will learn every aspect of an experienced cut flower operation and of the u-pick berry operation.
