General Description: We are a suburban SPIN farm operating a subscription box program for the central Vancouver Island region. 1/3 acre in production with more expansion planned at the end of this year. We are Certified Naturally Grown, and follow strict organic and sustainable practices. Our customer delivery program is unique and deserves a look at our website. Apprentices will benefit from our extensive business experience, bio-intensive and permaculture techniques, and farm management strategies that we are willing to impart. Apprentices will learn every aspect of running a successful farm and be involved hands-on with everything, especially how to start a farm without debt and make a decent income. Apprenties can stay for as little or long as they want, but must be able to work 6 hours a day, 5 days a week. During some harvest or planting times, more may be expected. We do not offer a stipend but those who stay longer will be rewarded with cash bonuses. You will stay with our family in your own room, and we can provide vegetarian meals. Our home is a regular suburban house near Parksville Beach, Cathedral Grove, and in proximity to Victoria, Vancouver, Mt. Washington, Mt. Arrowsmith and Tofino surfing.

Meals: Three meals a day plus healthy snacks. Vegetarian options are always provided because mom is generally a vegetarian. As much food as possible is sourced locally and is naturally grown.

Skills Desired: No experience necessary, candidates should be in good shape, able to lift heavy things and have a good sense of humour. If you have a bad back or any serious health problems, this is probably not for you. We often work in the rain and mud and we provide excellent waterproof apparel if you don't have your own, but be ready to get wet.

Educational Opportunities: Permaculture, bio-intensive and natural no-till farming, business management and effective marketing. The bee club offers free workshops in bee keeping, and there are a plethora of natural building workshops in the area you can also participate in. We have a modest farm library and lots of knowledge to share.

Stipend: Cash bonuses are offered the longer you stay.

Housing: Interns have their own room in our house, although if we have two apprentices of the same gender they may have to share with a bunk bed if we get other WWOOFers, etc. We have three children so you must be fine with kids, and respect our substance rules: no drugs, no smoking, and alcohol only in the evening after they go to bed. We are a lively young family (we are 27 and 30) and we love movies and games in the evenings.
