General Description: Sweetwater Farm is a non-profit, community-supported urban organic farm and educational center located in the Town n' Country area of Tampa (just northwest of TIA). Through our hands-on programs, visitors of all ages practice appropriate land stewardship and master sustainable agriculture techniques. Very active field trip program and Sunday Farmers Market. Season is November to May. Nearby beaches.

Meals: Apprentices and Interns receive a "share" of the veggies and herbs we grow during season. Some food staples are also provided for Apprentices living in the Apprentice house. The farm and the house both have a kitchen for making meals.

Skills Desired: Honest, reliable, hardworking, good people skills.
Apprentices preferably have some experience working or volunteering on a farm.
Interns do not have to have any farming experience.

Educational Opportunities: Some workshops on site. Apprentices jump in feet first and learn as we go through the season the challenges and rewards of farming in Florida. Farm Founder started first CSA in Florida and is an organic certification expert.

Stipend: A weekly stipend is available for Apprentices.
(Interns do not receive a stipend but have a very flexible work schedule.)

Housing: Apprentices live on farm property in our beautiful Apprentice house (which also serves as our Education Center). Each Apprentice will have their own private sleeping area, and will share a common area that includes a full kitchen, bathroom with shower, and living area with an enclosed porch. The house has Wi-Fi for internet access. All utilities are provided.

Internship Details: Apprentices work full-time 40-45 hours per week. Work- trade for room and board and weekly stipend.
(Interns work part-time, minimum 8 hours per week. Do not live on property, must drive in. No stipend.)

Apprentice Description: Our Apprentices work seasonally from September/October through the end of April/May growing certified organic vegetables, herbs, and flowers for our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program and our on-site Sunday Market. Bending, lifting, and carrying bins of produce are part of the daily routine. Apprentices will work closely with our Farmers, part-time Interns, and Volunteers.

Education Farm Apprentice: One apprentice will work with our Education Program Manager to conduct Field Trips and educate our community on organic, urban agriculture to visitors. This apprentice will conduct field trips, tours, work to create engaging activities, attend outreach events, and work to maintain the education gardens. Sweetwater recruits 4 Farm Apprentices (and 10 Interns) each season to dig right in and learn the basics of sustainable farming through our hands-on program. Apprentices work with our Farmers 5 days including weekends. Apprenticeships are considered complete at the end of the Season and Apprentices will be required to vacate the Apprentice house at that time.
