General Description: Hazelfield Farm is a small family farm located in beautiful Wheatley, Kentucky. Our farming family consists of husband and wife team, Todd and Esmee, and our little son Miller. We use nothing but organic and natural methods of farming to grow 7+ acres of vegetables, fruits and grains. We have chickens, a small herd of beef cows, a Jersey cow, also dogs and cats. We are hard working but fun loving. We have a deep sense of respect for this land and the creatures that live here with us. We take our farming vocation seriously, and would love to have apprentices who are committed to learning about organic farming and homesteading. Our farm is located near Esmee's family, so lots of family gathering is important and fun to us. We operate a 70 member CSA and attend a weekly farmer's market. Our experience includes over 14 years of organic farming and running a successful CSA. We attend the Hyde park farmers' market in Cincinnati (Award winning "Best of The City") each Sunday morning throughout the summer. We grow heirloom vegetables and grains. Our grains are hand-seeded, harvested on a 64-year old combine, and milled freshly using an antique gristmill. Esmee processes our farm's bounty, such as strawberries and blackberries, tomatoes and peppers. We grow lots of garlic! We have saved our own seed for 14 years and now harvest some 10,000 bulbs each June. We are looking for a hard-working individual to help us 5 days a week (40 hrs) for the months of May, June, July and August. Non-smoker preferred. Duties will include planting, hoeing and weeding, harvesting and packing vegetables for market, odd farm jobs, and help at our market booth in Cincinnati. Must have a drivers license and be physically able to do farm labor. Farming experience a plus! We will provide room and board and a small stipend. We have a tenant house that will be shared with another farm worker (private bedroom, kitchen, living room and bathroom). We will provide plenty of fresh vegetables to eat, and a few meals per week with our family. Our area offers plenty to do on days off: 1 hr drive to Lexington, Louisville and Cincinnati, fishing and canoeing, swimming and hiking, also biking. Please email or call to set up an interview. Please visit Hazelfield Farm's Facebook page for farm updates and tons of farm photos!
