Skills Desired: Preferred Qualifications:
• BS degree in agriculture (preferable in horticulture)
• Previous work experience in gardening and community gardens and/or farming is preferred.
• An interest in urban agriculture and community food systems
• Applicant must have a desire to play a positive role in the local community, be highly motivated and enthusiastic, have excellent social and interpersonal skills, as well as good communication skills (written and verbal).
• Applicant must be comfortable working without constant supervision and also be physically willing and able to handle garden bed construction and gardening activities.

Educational Opportunities: Educational opportunities such as attendance at SSAWG are available as well as other trainings.

Internship Details: Urban Agriculture Coordinator (AmeriCorps) -

Slow Food Baton Rouge is hiring a Urban Agriculture Coordinator to provide urban agriculture and gardening educational training (workshops, seminars, hands-on practicums) targeting youth and the community at large in Baton Rouge and to support the development of urban agriculture initiatives.

Slow Food Baton Rouge (SFBR, slowfoodbr.org) is a local nonprofit (501c3) that is dedicated to the promotion and development of a secure, just, and sustainable local food system. SFBR has provided training and support for several youth and community gardens, and worked to increase the connection between local producers and chefs/consumers through various programs and activities and the creation of the SFBR Local Food Guide.

The Urban Agriculture Coordinator will:
• Work with local organizations in Baton Rouge in community food systems, recruit and coordinate SFBR urban agriculture activities along with the Gardening and Local Food Coordinator (AmeriCorps position)
• Develop and implement training in gardening and urban agriculture enterprises in the Baton Rouge area.
