General Description: Winslow's Farm is a 300 acre property in Augusta, MO with 3 acres currently in vegetable and fruit production. Though not currently certified organic, we follow the NOP organic standards. The farm is connected to Winslows Home (www.winslowshome.com), a farm-to-table restaurant in University City. We grow a variety of vegetables, fruits, herbs, and flowers for the restaurant to use or turn into value-added products. We also keep a flock of layer hens to supply eggs to Winslows Home.

Internship Starts: 04-01-2017
Internship Ends: 11-30-2015
Number of Interns: 2
App Deadline: We will take applications until filled
Minimum Length of Stay: 3 months

Meals: Personal meals will be brought by the farm worker and eaten with the other crew. Some produce will be available to the farmers each week, as determined by the farm manager and the weather.

Skills Desired: For this position, no experience is necessary, although any relevant experience is welcome. The applicant should be in good health, able to lift 50+ pounds, able to work outdoors in various temperatures, should enjoy physical manual labor, have an interest in growing organic produce, have a good attitude, and be able to work well with others. Applicants should expect to complete a working interview before being considered.

Educational Opportunities: The farm worker will have the opportunity to learn our systems of management for rotating pastured laying hens, goats, and produce on a small vegetable farm. The education will come through instruction and explanation of work, as well as working for a very transparent and conversational manager. If more academic direction is desired, I'll happily provide that.

Stipend: We will provide an hourly wage of $12.50/hour.

Housing: No housing is available on-farm. We are located near enough to Saint Louis that a commute is doable (30-45 min depending where in the city), but closer housing would benefit both employees and manager, as we start early to avoid working the hottest hours of the day.

Preferred method Of Contact: email

Internship Details: I am looking for two part-time or one full-time person for a beginning position, work consisting of harvest, weeding, irrigation/fertigation, string trimming, and general field maintenance. Training up on more tasks will follow if applicants have enough experience, enthusiasm, and/or aptitude. This position is paid hourly @ $12.50. I am pretty flexible with scheduling within the week. A minimum of a three-month commitment is required; this could fit well with a summer school schedule, or work for somebody with a longer window of time for a seasonal commitment.
