General Description: Mission: Recover Fading Traditions, Discover Meaningful Living What We Do: 1. Provide a working model of a small, modern homestead: Over an acre of gardens Bees Heritage chickens and pigs Solar panel array Greywater system Functional kitchen Working greenhouse 2. Offer hands-on instruction in homesteading skills: Gardening Food preparation and preservation Keeping and processing livestock Home crafts and arts Natural health Outdoor recreation skills (fishing, hunting, processing) Home/farm energy and water solutions 3. Offer space to the community for related events: Four meeting spaces (Great Room, Playroom, Kitchen, Outdoor Classroom) Functional kitchen and serving ware Art Gallery Sleep up to 25 in beds, 35 with air mattresses Beautiful outdoor setting, pool, and lake

Internship Starts: Feb, March, April 2014
Internship Ends: August, July, Sept 2014

Minimum Length of Stay: 3 months

Meals: You have your own kitchen and access to any of the produce from the garden. We also provide pork and beef for you to cook with from our deep freezer. We can take you to the store once a week as well.

Skills Desired: We can teach you the skills you need, but you must posses a spirit of hard work, positive attitude, and willingness to learn.

Educational Opportunities: Learn: Natural Gardening, small animal care, food production and preservation, farm maintenance, fencing, cooking, cheesemaking, and beekeeping. There is an opportunity Sunday-Tuesday each week to travel to other farms to learn how they do things or to have cultural experiences in nearby locations: Memphis, New Orleans, Mobile, Florida, Nashville, etc. We live in a University Town and you could take an evening class if you like.

Stipend: $100/month per person

Housing: Bedroom, kitchen, bath, laundry, Furnished.

Internship Details: Learn Modern Homesteading at the Mississippi Modern Homestead Center. My family and I take care of chickens, bees, gardens, pigs, and 90 acres. We would love to share our knowledge with people who want hands-on learning in exchange for extra hands around the Center. Work with our family Wed-Saturday and travel Sunday -Tuesday. We would love for our children to be exposed to people from different cultures. Work is physical and includes: digging, shoveling, building fences, cooking, cleaning, landscaping, weeding, harvesting, and caring for animals. We require a minimum of three months and provide housing, kitchen, laundry facilities, and all the produce you can eat + a small stipend of $100/month/person. This internship would be ideal for a couple to take on together. WE WOULD PREFER A COUPLE TRAVELING TOGETHER NO SMOKING
