General Description: Nourishing Acres is a Certified Organic Vegetable Farm located in Cedar Grove, NC. Our farm is located just north of Hillsborough, and a short drive from both Durham and Chapel Hill/Carrboro. We are entering our 5th season of production at our current farm. We sell our Certified Organic produce at 2 area farmers markets, as well as through a local community owned food co-op. Meals: Meals are not provided. Employees will have access to vegetables grown on the farm as part of their compensation.

Skills Desired: Experience working in agriculture or gardening is a plus, but not necessary. Candidates must be willing and able to work in all weather conditions and be able to lift 50 pounds. Candidates must be able to do repetitive movements such as bending or standing for long periods of time. Candidates with an interest in pursuing farming as a career will be given priority. Other skills candidates should possess are: punctuality, honesty, reliability, good people-person skills and a willingness to learn and try new things. We strive to be an efficient and productive vegetable farm. We also strive to enjoy our time working in an environment that promotes health and well-being. We love what we do for a living and we love sharing that experience with our crew!

Educational Opportunities: If you decide to join the Nourishing Acres farm crew, you will gain an understanding of how to run a successful Certified Organic vegetable farm. Educational opportunities exist to learn about the following: Certified Organic farm management, irrigation set-up, greenhouse maintenance, construction projects, vegetable marketing via farmers markets and wholesale accounts and many other aspects of a production vegetable farm. Ample opportunities to learn exist; it will be up to you to take full advantage of these opportunities. We are the founding members of a newly created CRAFT group in our area. Participation in CRAFT is optional, but we will have the opportunity to visit 6-8 farms in the area throughout the year. This is a great opportunity to not only see other farming operations, but to meet other folks in our local farming community.

Stipend: This position is a paid, hourly position. Pay starts at $10/hr. Opportunities for pay increases exist as well as opportunities to work for more than one season.

Housing: Housing is not currently available. Our farm is within easy commuting distance from Hillsborough, Durham & Chapel Hill/Carrboro.

Internship Details: We are looking for 2 farm crew members to join our farm for the 2019 season. We give priority to applicants who are interested in pursuing agriculture as a career. Daily work consists of harvesting, washing, packing and post harvest handling of vegetables for market and wholesale, attending one weekly Saturday farmers market with one of the farm owners, greenhouse seeding and maintenance, and field work such as planting, seeding and weeding. Farm crew members generally work 5 days per week; 4 days on the farm and Saturday mornings at one of our farmers markets (averaging 32-38 hrs per week, depending on the time of year). Our farm is close to Hillsborough, Chapel Hill/Carrboro and Durham.
