General Description: Ground Stone Farm is a new farm located just north of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Located on 3 tillable acres of river bottom sandy loam, we are growing for local Farmers Markets as well as selling wholesale through Squash Blossom Local Food. Eight years of working on farms, studying agriculture in the classroom, and exploring the world collecting seed, inspiration, and ideas has culminated in Ground Stone Farm. We hope to be inspired by agricultural traditions of the past while using new techniques to grow nourishing and exciting food.

Internship Starts: 04-01-18
Internship Ends: 10-15-18
Number of Interns: 1
App Deadline: Rolling, though preference given to early applicants
Minimum Length of Stay: 3 Months, but long term apprentices will receive bonuses

Meals: Interns are welcome to any produce from the farm for lunch and to take home. And we feel that taking a proper lunch break, to talk, rest, enjoy ones company, and eat good food during the day is very important for this type of work and lifestyle.

Skills Desired: Farm experience preferred. Landscaping, conservation work, working outside, physical work experience is also preferred. If not, can train. Must be able to lift 50 pounds, work outside in the sun all day, and have a good attitude.

Educational Opportunities: As a farm in it's first season, there are plenty of educational opportunities. Perhaps even more so than an established farm. We have a background of working on farms ourselves, being involved in the local food scene in a few different regions of the US, and know what makes working on a farm truly educational. You will be working one on one with the farmers, and will have any and all questions (hopefully) being answered. You will be able to see a barebones, bootstrap farm, do what is has to do to make a living off of the land, which can be missing in many internships across the country on very well established farms. There is no classroom time; however you will be involved with every step from seeding, transplanting, weeding, harvesting, and selling food being grown at the farm.

Stipend: Beginning at $600 a month with room to increase based on experience, plus a bonus for full season

Housing: No housing provided. Nambe and Pojoaque are the closest communities, and we are 20 minutes north of Santa Fe.

Preferred method Of Contact: email

Internship Details: 4 days a week, on the farm, working markets on occasion. This opportunity is for people would could see themselves running their own farm, and learning how to do it profitably on leased land. You will see a farm in its first year, with all the nitty gritty failures and successes. You will be involved in almost all aspects of the farm and will be a vital crew member, with the opportunity to grow into a full-time employee in the future. Most importantly, we are looking to find somebody that is fun, passionate, and excited about life! We love farming and we love farming even more with great people. Being an awesome person is the first qualification. Send us an email and we'd love to hear from you.
