General Description: We are a certified organic family farm located twelve miles West of Dayton. We market our produce through a CSA, at a local farmers market and through a coop of organic farms in Columbus, OH. In the coming season we expect to have approximately 10 acres in vegetable production with our remaining acreage in cover crops.

Meals: We do not provide any meals, but employees are welcome to vegetables from the farm.

Skills Desired: No prior farm experience is necessary, but familiarity with physical, outdoor work is highly desirable. Employees are expected to: have the physical stamina to work a full day in conditions that at times will be hot, dry and dusty and at other times cold, wet and muddy. You must be able to keep up with other workers when we are working as a team (and also able to push yourself to work quickly and efficiently when working on your own. Also applicants should be able to complete physically demanding tasks that may include standing, squatting or bending for extended periods of time, and be able to lift up to 50 pounds if necessary.

Educational Opportunities: We do not offer any formal educational opportunities, but we are happy to share data that we use to plan each season and we are happy to recommend books and other resources for individual exploration. Since we are a relatively small farm you will be exposed to a wide variety of tasks and will definitely get experience with all aspects of running a diversified vegetable farm.

Stipend: Pay starts at $8.15 / hour for part time and at $9 / hour for full time employees. We carry workman's compensation for all employees, but do not provide any additional health benefits.

Housing: We do not currently have any housing available on the farm, but if an employee is willing to make a full season, full time commitment we can provide primitive housing (camper trailer) for the season. Please contact us to discuss this option.

Internship Details: Employee duties will be dependent on length of stay and employee preferences. Positions available include:

1. Packing Shed (mid-May through November): Assist with washing, storage and processing of all produce as it makes its way from field to market. Additional duties will include washing all field and CSA crates, supervising the CSA pack and other tasks related to keeping the packing shed organized and running smoothly.

2. Greenhouse (mid-March through July): Assist in the production of high quality transplants for sale at market and for use on the farm. Responsibilities will include making potting mix, filling and labeling flats, seeding flats, organizing the greenhouse, moving plants into or out of the greenhouse as necessary, and other tasks as the need arises.

3. Fieldwork (April through November): Assist Ben and Emily with all aspects of crop production in the fields, including riding on the transplanter, weeding (using hoes and occasionally hand-weeding), and other crop maintenance such as trellising and installing and removing row cover, plastic mulch, etc.

4. Harvesting (June - mid November): Assist with the vegetable harvest for CSA and market. Responsibilities will include working quickly and efficiently to accurately complete the weekly harvest tasks.
