General Description: Experience what it is like to start a farm! We are 4 kms SW of St.Thomas and about a 30 min drive south of London. We live on a 40 acre mix of forest, fields and wetlands with a lot of potential. We are beginning farmers starting a new 40 member CSA and market garden in 2014 and looking for apprentices who want to join us for this experience. We will provide room and board and a stipend in exchange for work on the farm. Depending on the candidate, there is opportunity for an experienced intern to start their own farm venture or joint venture on the farm. We will be delivering CSA shares in St.Thomas weekly and participating in at least 1 London area farmer's market. We'll also have a flock of laying hens to offer eggs to CSA members and we plan to experiment with other farm ventures next year. The farm includes many old fruit trees (cherry, apples, apricots, peaches), a pond and wetland and 10 acres of forest. We currently rent paddock space to 3 horses and have 3 separate fenced areas which we will be expanding next year to include new pasture and hay fields. We are 10 minutes from Port Stanley on Lake Erie and very close to St.Thomas. The ideal candidate is someone who has plans to start a farm and wants to see the planning and experiences that happen in the early years of farming.
