General Description: Sand Holler is a 40 acre family farmstead started in 2008 to provide a diverse array of foods and products. The farm is home to a small dairy goat herd, a fiber sheep flock, an ever growing number of poultry (chickens, ducks and guineas), an orchard, and a large organic vegetable garden. The garden provides produce for weekly farmers markets, local restaurants/catering facilities, and CSA members. The goats provide fresh milk for consumption and cheese making.

We are located outside of Austin in the small town of Dale. Lockhart and Bastrop are about 15 minutes away. Downtown Austin is less than an hour away.

Our farm is about 40 acres - 4 acres cleared pasture and the rest open woods. The soil is sandy loam.

Interns will get a full farmstead experience, from garden and orchard work to caring for all of our farm critters. If interested, we can teach hand milking and cheese making.

Along with farming activities, we typically have a construction project (barns, housing, solar power, etc.) We have a general workshop and a blacksmith shop.

Interns are needed year-round and we can accommodate 3-4 individuals. Interns and WWOOFers live in either a n apartment attached to a garden house or a newer model travel trailer with a double bed and two single bunk beds. All accommodations buildings have heat, A/C, and internet can be accessed near the farmhouse.

We can accommodate any length of stay and require a 2 week minimum. You are expected to work a minimum of 35 hours per week. Our interns/WWOOFers generally work 5 days a week, but we are open to other schedules.

We provide groceries and all the farm-fresh food you need to prepare your other meals. We can work with dietary needs/restrictions. We also enjoy gathering to prepare nice 'community meals'.

We speak English and some Spanish. Our family is vegetarian but we aren't opposed to others eating meat here.

Please send email with your background, interests and relevant information.

Older children negotiable. Sorry no pets.
