General Description: Terra Preta Farm is a small family owned and operated certified organic farm located in Edinburg, Texas. The 7-acre farm produces vegetables in field and in high tunnels. We serve a 50 member CSA and a local farmers' market. Our tropical weather allows us to grow from October thru May. We grow over 30 different varieties of vegetables.

Meals: Apprentice is responsible for preparing their own meals. However, you will have access to seasonal vegetables from the farm.

Skills Desired: Experience is preferred but not necessary. We need an intern/apprentice who is passionate about organic farming and improving the soil.Applicants should be highly motivated and not afraid of hard work and working outside in all weather conditions. Skills needed: ability to follow instructions, observant, organized, outgoing, willing to learn Spanish, ability to lift 30-40lbs, and a strong back. Work schedule varies with farm's needs. You will be expected to work 4-5 days a week from 8a-5p with an hour lunch. And sometimes you will need to attend the farmers market on Saturday mornings. Applicants should feel comfortable working in smoke & drug free Christian family environment.

Educational Opportunities: Hired Apprentice will have direct access to farm manager and gain experience needed to manage a farming operation. Access to crop planning files, workshop presentations, and community of local farmers committed to supporting beginning farmers.

Stipend: $600 a month

Housing: Housing is not available on the farm, but the farm will assist with finding housing in close proximity and provide $200 housing allowance. Please plan on providing your own transportation to the farm.
