General Description: Moon Dog Farms is a small Certified Naturally Grown farm and orchard located near the Gulf of Mexico, 40 miles outside of Houston, Texas. Our land has 11 acres in an old pear orchard which we are constantly working to restore, and we grow annual vegetables on nearly 6 acres. Our farming practices are "beyond organic," meaning we use a variety of age-old methods to grow food and maintain our fields, such as cover cropping, integrated pest management, composting, inter-planting and good old-fashioned hand-weeding. We sell to a few select restaurants and at local farmers' markets. We believe small local farms have the power to strengthen their communities, becoming hubs that connect people to the land and one another. We envision Moon Dog Farms to be a provider of healthy and delicious food as well as a place of learning, friendship, and testament to the goodness of this earth.

Meals: You are welcome to any produce from the farm. Your tiny house has a small, but completely functional kitchen with a range, oven, fridge and sink.

Skills Desired: No experience required, just a willing attitude, strong work ethic and above all, honesty.

Educational Opportunities: Depending on the candidate and her or his interest level, we are happy to share all of our accumulated knowledge. We have been farming here for 7 years now and for 4 years before that in other parts of the country. Alex has a degree in sustainable agriculture and is happy to get all soil-science-y with the right dirt nerd. If you prefer to just do your work and experience a farm, that is fine too, we can adjust the experience to your interest level.

Stipend: The basic agreement is 15 hours/week for your lodging and produce. There are opportunities to earn extra money by running our booth at farmers market or working extra hours on the farm for the right candidate.

Housing: There is a tiny house on the property with everything you need. The rent is 15 hours work per week and all utilities - ie water, electricity, internet - are included. The bathroom of the tiny house has an outside entrance in addition to the inside entrance and also serves as the public restroom when we have farm events -- which is about once a month.
