General Description: At Orange Cat Community Farm we love growing organic vegetables! What is even better is sharing them with the local community and providing people an opportunity to see where their food comes from. The farm is located in Sauk County, WI near Reedsburg and Wisconsin Dells. It is 1 hour from Madison and about 20 minutes from the Baraboo Hills, where there are beautiful hiking and recreational opportunities. The farm has been in operation since 2010. It is 22 acres with 3 acres of certified organic vegetables, including hoophouse production. The produce is marketed through a 150 member main season CSA as well as spring and fall CSA shares and a farmers' market in Baraboo. The farm is owned and operated by Laura Mortimore, who gained a degree in horticulture and 5 years of organic vegetable farming experience before beginning a farm of her own. Orange Cat Community Farm prides itself on producing high quality vegetables and creating a positive CSA experience for members. We are excited to add a hard-working, motivated individual to our team!

Meals: All full-time employees receive a spring and summer CSA share. Meals are on your own or can be prepared communally with the other employees.

Skills Desired: I am looking for employees with positive attitudes, efficient work ethics, and good physical stamina who are adaptable and excited to learn about growing vegetables. Previous vegetable farming experience is very desirable, but not necessary. You need to be sincerely interested in being a part of everything that happens here. You need to be comfortable working alone and in a crew. You will be working in all weather conditions.

Educational Opportunities: This is a working CSA and market farm. You will have the opportunity to work directly with the farmer everyday and learn while getting your hands dirty.

Stipend: Full-time Crew Member/Intern Position: $9/hr; three paid days off; Crew Leader Position: $11/hour; three paid days off

Housing: There are rooms for rent in the farm house, but employees are more than welcome to find off-farm housing. The room at the farm includes a private bedroom with shared employee bathroom and living room. The kitchen is shared with the farmer. There is a huge deck on the house for everyone's use. $362/month includes internet and all utilities.

Preferred method Of Contact: Please email a resume and cover letter expressing why you are interested in spending a season working at Orange Cat Community Farm. Also describe any special qualifications that you think might come in handy at Orange Cat Community Farm.

Internship Details: Hours of expected work are 7:55am- 5pm, Monday through Friday with an hour lunch break. There will be times when circumstances require us to work later, but I'll do my best to keep the schedule. Employees are required to attend the Saturday farmers' market on a rotating basis. The farm has several worker shares that help out weekly and 1 crew leader. At any given time there are usually 3-5 people working on a crew. Although the daily regiment will change, in a season expect to be involved with the following: greenhouse transplant production, transplanting and direct seeding, weeding, irrigation, harvest, post-harvest handling, hoophouse vegetable production, selling at a farmers' market, driving delivery routes, and the ins and outs of running a CSA with happy members. There is opportunity to learn about canning and freezing produce, and spinning and knitting yarn if you are interested. Valid driver's license is required. I am going to ask you to work hard. I am going to ask you to enjoy yourself. Best person for the job: someone who enjoys working hard!
