Small-Farm Climate Adaptation Project Receives Funding

As part of a NIFA grant through the Agriculture Economics and Rural Communities: Small and Medium-Sized Farms Program, University of Maine researchers will be assessing climate perceptions and developing adaptation resources for small, medium, and beginning farms. The initiative is part of a three-year project led by the University of Vermont. In their portion of the project, University of Maine researchers will interview farmers who own small and medium-size operations, including those just beginning their careers, as well as farm advisers and climate experts, regarding their perceptions and experiences regarding climate change. In addition, focus groups with farmers will help identify the most useful resources and the best way to conduct outreach for those resources using workshops, webinars, and presentations. The project aims to develop a model for national outreach that will help small and medium farms remain viable.
