Study Identifies Effective Ways to Cut Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Agriculture

A study by Cornell University scientists explored both dietary change and agricultural technologies as means of reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the food-system sector. The model showed that while dietary changes had little effect on carbon sequestration, employing agricultural technologies and management techniques could contribute significantly to sector-wide negative emissions. According to this study, the most effective ways to reduce emissions are to utilize soil modifications for crops (biochar, compost, and rock amendments), develop agroforestry, advance sustainable seafood harvesting practices, and promote hydrogen-powered fertilizer production.
