Video Documents Trials on Organic Management of Canada Thistle

A new video posted on eOrganic features trials by Montana State University of organic weed management methods for Canada thistle in spring wheat. This research was part of a research project funded by the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture Organic Research and Extension Initiative and involved planting different forage crops and cover crops to find which were best at suppressing Canada thistle in spring wheat. In the 25-minute video, Dr. Tim Seipel, MSU Cropland Weed Extension Specialist and Nate Powel-Palm of Cold Springs Organics tour the trials and discuss how alfalfa helped suppress Canada thistle. They also discuss other organic strategies that can help control the spread of perennial weeds as part of an integrated weed management program.
