General Farm Description: The Farber Farm is a one acre mixed crop farm growing vegetables, herbs, small fruits, flowers, and small livestock. Our farm is located on the campus of a 1000 acre summer camp and retreat center in rural mid-east Michigan. The farm serves our summer camp community through farm programs, on site dining hall, and other local organizations. Internship Details:
The Farber Farm Summer Specialists are the education, program, and farmhand team during our Tamarack Camps summer camp weeks (June-August 2024 with some flexibility). The farm specialists are responsible for implementing field work and summer camp programs at the farm centered around a written farm curriculum as well as their own experience of food and farm related activities.
The specialists will work with and report directly to the Farm Educator and Farm Manager to ensure that all farm activities and programs are successfully accomplished. Farm Specialists should have a strong interest in and/or experience with food, farming/gardening, homesteading skills, sustainability, Jewish agricultural knowledge, and experiential education. The Farm Specialists will work very closely with Camp Maas staff and are under the direct supervision of the Camp Maas Director, Farm Educator, and Farm Manager. Farm specialists will live onsite in rustic cabin housing with all Kosher meals and farm produce provided.
Start date flexibility, but no later than June 6th.
Specialist Job Responsibilities Include
-Implementation and delivery of provided farm program curriculum to Tamarack’s summer camp and family camp community
-Collective care of farm and program tools and supplies
– Farm and garden labor
-Maintaining clean and comfortable common spaces
-Maintaining clean and organized cooking spaces
– Collaboration with camp wide art/cooking programming
– Participating in and initiating camp sustainability initiatives
-Work with the Farm Manager to coordinate garden work specific activities such as harvesting, weeding, planting etc.
-Assist with animal chores

– Passion for outdoor education involving youth
-Enthusiastic about food – cooking, eating, preserving
-Excellent communication skills
-Ability to follow direction and learn quickly
-Ability to lift 30+lbs, squat, crawl, bend, and be on your feet all day in varied weather conditions
-Excitement to live and work in a Jewish community setting
-Available to start early-mid June 2024
Educational Opportunities: We will train all staff members on all subjects from growing to food preservation and beyond. We can also work with any internship structures through university programs.
