Internship information
General Farm Description: We grow on one acre of my family’s beautiful homestead in the rolling hills of the Piedmont. We have many farm projects here, some of which you can participate in (wanna milk a cow?) but the job for which we are hiring revolves around our 1 acre market garden. The only pesticide we use is an organic one called BT. We use no herbicides or synthetic fertilizers and we like to grow in our 4 high-tunnels whenever possible. Our days are built around routine, sometimes repetitive, work, but we will not let our farm become ugly or utilitarian for the sake of efficiency. We have many hiking trails and points of interest and there is a lot to learn here for the motivated worker. We operate an on-farm CSA and sell at two farmers' markets. Our farm is a ten minute drive from Culpeper and about 20 minutes from Warrenton and an hour from DC.CRAFT Member Farm? Yes

We are seeking one full-time farmhand (40-45 hours per week) for 2024. We may hire a part-time worker as well if he or she can commute to the farm or if they are the spouse of the full-time worker. Let us know in advance of applying if you would prefer the part-time role. The successful applicant will be able to work outdoors in a wide range of pollen/insect/weather conditions. The work week will revolve around harvesting, washing, and packing produce, but will also include garden bed preparation, seeding, transplanting and other farm duties. -Please have a valid US driver’s license.-
Contact us for a more detailed job and farm description.
Educational Opportunities: The job title is "farmhand" but if you are interested in starting a small-scale vegetable business of your own there is much to learn here and the job could be viewed as an educational internship as well. We will participate in CRAFT gatherings when possible and our garden maps, planning and accounting books are open to you.
Skills Desired: Work experience on another farm would be good to see, but we will consider any hardy applicant who can show up every day with a good attitude.
Meals: You will have access to as much garden produce as you can eat. Milk and eggs will be yours at no cost when supply allows. -These products are not valued as compensation for work performed-
Stipend: $2,000/month plus housing for the full-time position. Part-time position has flexible scheduling/pay; please inquire.
