General Farm Description: Summerfield Waldorf School and Farm is a small-diversified Biodynamic farm modeled after a family farmthat was ones common in this area. We have been Demeter Certified since 2002. The farm occupies roughly half of the 32 acre Summerfield Waldorf School campus. We are situated close to the Laguna de Santa Rosa wetlands in an area that was once a large oak Savanna. We are currently growing 2 Acres of row crops on raised beds.Our primarytillageis done bytractorand we cultivateusing an electric tractor. We have 8 acres of Pasture for our two cows 12 sheep 4 Goats 60 Chickens 3 Ducks and 4 Bunnies. Students, pre-K through 12Gradehave Gardening classes on the farm and helpwith planting,seedingand harvesting. Crops include Beets Carrots Beans Kale Broccoli Cabbage Brussle-sprouds ChardOnions Garlic Leeks Tomatoes Eggplant Peppers Corn Squash and Flowers. We have a small Spalier Apple orchard with 80 Heirloom varieties Fig Plum Asian- Pear and fruit bushes. Harvest is a daily chore we grow Vegetable for our own organic Lunch Program and sell through an Onsite Farmstand.CRAFT Member Farm? No

Position Description:
Interns will be working along side the farmer, with volunteers and on their own. Chores and responsibilities will include sowing, planting, weeding, harvesting, mowing, tractor fieldwork, feeding, fencing, and general day to day farming. Because of the proximity of the school, there is a strong emphasis of cleanliness and organization. Each apprentice will have two days off a week.
Educational Opportunities: visiting near by farms attending farm meetings twice a month
Skills Desired: knowing about animal care would be a plus but not required
Meals: Meals are not included but can be purchased through the Student Organic Lunch Program and all Fruit and Vegetable from the farm are for Free including Eggs.
Stipend: 1850 $ a month + free housing
