Internship Details:
Terra Nova Roots, the market side of Urban Ark Conservation, is offering a unique internship opportunity for individuals passionate about sustainability, environmental stewardship, and innovative farming practices. This internship provides hands-on experience working on a farm in its early stages of development, offering valuable insight into what it takes to start and grow a farm. Interns will be actively involved in daily livestock care, rotational and multi-species grazing management, crop planting and harvesting, pest control, and aquaponics system maintenance. Additional responsibilities include implementing permaculture practices, supporting soil health initiatives like composting and mulching, and contributing to farm-to-fork operations.
This opportunity is ideal for those eager to learn on the ground level of a growing farm. Interns will develop practical skills in sustainable farming techniques, animal husbandry, and food production while gaining an understanding of the challenges and opportunities involved in starting a farm. The right candidate may even be considered for a profit-sharing opportunity as the farm grows, and all current interns are welcome to receive seconds in produce when available.
Candidates should have a strong interest in sustainable agriculture, a willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions, and the ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods. While prior farming experience is not required, a collaborative attitude and eagerness to learn are essential.
Educational Opportunities: You have the opportunity to learn on our market farm side things like rotational grazing, aquaponics, composting, poultry processing, and animal husbandry. We do have a nonprofit side to our farm which includes the conservation of some critically endangered species of livestock, as well as educational and agricultural therapy programs for veterans and first responders.
Skills Desired: Sustainable Agriculture is a plus. Some knowledge of aquaponics, rotational grazing, market gardening, and permaculture are preferred but not required.
Meals: We do not offer meals on a daily basis but will offer market seconds when available as well as hosting occasionally for the right applicant.
Stipend: Not at this time
Housing: We have space to park a camper or RV but that would be provided by the applicant if needed.
Preferred method of Contact: Text messages at the provided number or email
