General Farm Description: 2nd year very unique demonstration farm for Living Soil Network. We have 3 acres of no till farmland. Our only inputs are our water, sun, and our own biologically complete organic compost products, and homeopathic remedies. Nothing else! Mostly we use compost extracts and compost teas. We are certified soil health consultants with the Soil Food Web School and understand the power of microbes to naturally grow healthy food. Internship Details:
Position requires normal farm labor, including the hand preparation of new beds, broad forking, rock removal, hand weeding, mulching, planting, harvesting, etc. etc. Applicant must be strong, healthy, and able to perform 40 hours a week of typical farm labor. Washing and preparing produce for market is also required. Intern will learn about the proper use of making and applying compost extracts and teas. Occasionally the intern may need to help with the compost making process. Applicant will also learn about agrohomeopathy and the use of natural remedies for pest control and for healing plant diseases.
This is a rural area of Maine and your own transportation is a must. We are 20 min. from Belfast, Maine and 2o min from August Maine. I.5 hours from Portland.
This farm exists in healing bio dynamic environment and as such we can not accept applicants who are regular drug or alcohol users/abusers, including cannabis. In other words if you do not use recreational cannabis daily or drink alcohol to excess, we welcome your application.
Educational Opportunities: This is a one of a kind opportunity to learn about truly regenerative all natural methods from experienced soil health professionals.
Skills Desired: Must be strong and willing to work hard. Some farm experience a must. Environmental concern and ecological awareness important.
Meals: No, but vegetable from the farm will be offered during the harvest periods.
Stipend: yes, 17 per hour.
Housing: yes, new, cedar, off grid cabin with hot water showers and outside cook stove. inside wood stove for heat.
