Internship information
General Farm Description: Our farm is a diversified, un-certified organic family farm located in beautiful Wheatley, Kentucky. Our farm is located centrally between Cincinnati, OH, Louisville, KY and Lexington, KY. We are full time farmers that grow for a 70+ member CSA in Cincinnati and locally. We raise around 5 acres of a wide variety of vegetables, herbs, fruits and grains. We also raise a small herd of cattle (sometimes chickens and pigs). We produce soaps and salves, herbal teas, cornmeal, dried herbs, and much more! HF has a private farm house (2 bed/1 bath) available for WWOOFers with electricity, running water (collected rain), TV, AC, and is surrounded by orchards. Our guest house is sweet little cottage built in the 1880s, so plumbing is quirky, but we will teach you all of the tricks! Work would include planting, weeding, harvesting and preparing vegetables for CSA, and help with general farm maintenance. WWOOF visits May until September. Must have own transportation and WIFI. Farm work is done Mon-Fri, 5 hours per day. Saturdays and Sundays are your own! We provide vegetables, grains, staples (rice and dried beans, olive oil, etc) and herbs for meals. *We are very accepting of all individuals, every race, nationality, religion, sexuality. We love diversity! We enjoy art, books, animals, yoga, astrology, mythology, nature, herbal medicines and creations, music, friendship, and more! *We practice sustainable, hand work methods for weed control, and only biological methods of insect control. We do not believe in the use of chemical or synthetic fertilizers or pest control on our farm. Certifications: Previously certified organic and certified naturally grown, we still farm using only organic practices in every aspect of our farm. Current projects: Our CSA and deliveries begin in May. We will seed/plant crops, maintain the crops (weeding, mulching, trellising, harvesting), harvest and prepare veggies/fruits for CSA each week. We also offer educational opportunities for soap and salve making, herbal remedies, sustainable living methods, an extensive farming library, orchards, berries, herb growing/harvesting, preserving food, and animal husbandry. Internet access available at your own cost.CRAFT Member Farm? No
