Farm description
Farm to Taber grows vegetables & berries for local grocery stores & restaurants. Most are for South & East Asian, Caribbean, Latin, & West African cooking. We have a lot of expats here in southeast NC, and their traditional love our weather! But the stores that sell these vegetables have to import them from Central America. Most US farmers either don’t know about these crops or aren’t interested in growing them.
The goal is to grow the farm to serve this market in the US Southeast. Although the farm is small at this time, training will focus on running it as a professional wholesale operation, so the farm manager can be prepared to take on greater responsibility in 2027.
Owner: Dr. Sarah Taber is a former farm worker & crop scientist. Dr. Taber runs the YouTube channel “Farm to Taber,” going in depth on real-life farm finances & farm policy.
Educational Opportunities: I'm a crop scientist with a special focus on IPM/organic management. I also spent several years in food safety (both auditing & training/consulting). My goal is to train my farm manager on as much of this as possible. You will definitely learn things on this internship!
Skills Desired: Farm experience & Spanish are helpful but not mandatory. Veterans preferred but not mandatory. (Landowner is a veteran & several partner orgs are veteran-run.) This is an equal opportunity employer; people from diverse backgrounds are welcome & encouraged to apply.
