General Farm Description: Small integrated family farm producing organic cherries, raspberries, apricots, plums etc., which we sell at the local farmers market and to local fruitstands. The farm includes a sustainable vegetable garden for our own use and for the market, goat herd, and Christmas trees. Internship Details:
Primary responsibilities of the intern would be to assist us in thinning, irrigating, picking, packing and delivering fruit to area fruit stands and selling at our large booth at the local farmer market. Farm duties include caring for our small herd of Boer goats, with babies due mid-April. Garden work includes using a riding lawnmower to mow farm yard and orchards, and tending the vegetable garden and natural landscape surrounding our log home. Penny is a Master Gardener and Monte is a forester so we have experience and knowledge to share. This internship requires a mature, responsible individual who is not afraid of hard work!! There will be time for hikes and swimming and badminton.
Educational Opportunities: Hands on opportunity to experience sustainable production and sale of fruit. Care of orchard, Christmas trees, irrigation, vegetable garden and landscape under guidance of an orchardist and forester, and master gardener. Care of goat herd and pasture. Family farm setting.
Skills Desired: Valid drivers license, clean driving record, no drugs or alcohol. Nonsmoker. Must have ability to work independently after being given instructions and to work quickly and responsibly. Ability to lift 40 pounds and work from a 10 foot orchard ladder is essential . Enjoy selling to the public.
Meals: Home cooked meals are provided using the best of the Northwest natural meats, fish, home grown fruits and vegetables. We prepare and eat meals together family style, with everyone helping in meal preparation and cleanup. Opportunities to learn home canning, drying and freezing.
Stipend: $2000 per month, less payroll deductions. Bonuses available for high volume picking and packing and selling. Three references required.
Housing: Semi-private room with bathroom, shower, wifi. In a custom built log home. Badminton, hiking, swimming on location. 17 miles from town. Near the Cascade Mountains.
