General Farm Description: The Farm at Our House's mission is to to grow fresh produce sustainably and provide work development opportunities for young people. We are located in Brookeville, Maryland, 15 miles north of Washington, DC. We grow certified organic small fruits and vegetables and raise honey bees on 12 acres. We manage an additional 14 acres. The farm is located on 140 acres owned by Our House www.our-house.org , a residential job training center for young men ages 16-21. We do not own land, but have farmed at the same location for over a decade and have a formal agreement to do so. Last year we grossed $280,000, managed a 200 member 24-28 week CSA, sold at 2 local farmers market, and began a delivery program. We hope to maintain the dramatic growth we experienced last year. We operate one greenhouse, 3 high tunnels and possess 4 walk in refrigeration units. Implement daily priorities and policies as determined by farm owner and farm manager. Lead and perform field work, including planting, cultivation, irrigation, harvesting, post-harvest handling of crops; assist with mushroom production, equipment maintenance, repair and requisition, greenhouse and high tunnel maintenance and supervision and property landscaping; Identify crop selection including crops specific to Southeast Asia.
Possibly represent farm at weekly farmers markets or CSA pickup site; ensure delivery of produce to wholesale customers and individuals; manage produce allocation among market, wholesale and CSA; contribute to newsletter, website, social media presence and marketing materials. Potential to participate in budgeting, crop rotation planning, crop/variety selection, capital project planning exists. Ensure work is documented; sales are recorded and organic certification requirements are met. Two opportunities to receive a pay raise exist during the course of the season and promotion to assistant farm manager at the conclusion of August and year-round work are also possible. We are ultimately looking to train someone to become a year round assistant farm manager.

Meals: We provoide free produce and do on occassion have potluck lunches.
Stipend: Pay starts between $15-$16/hr depending on experience for full time crew members. Summer apprentices receive a stipend that works out to about $12/hour. All farm crew members get access to free produce.
