Internship information
General Farm Description: 10th Street Farm is a four-season vegetable farm located in Afton, MN, just outside the Twin Cities. We sell our vegetables year-round via seasonal CSAs, wholesale channels, and a year-round on-farm market. We focus on no-till, human-scale, intensive vegetable production, utilizing moveable high tunnels, paperpot transplanters, and other tools to make the work easier and the soil happier. We also grow a small amount of cut flowers and have a commercial kitchen on-site, but crew members typically work only occasionally on those enterprises.CRAFT Member Farm? No

About the position:
10th Street Farm & Market is seeking two full-time crew members to join our returning crew for the upcoming season.
Crew members participate in all aspects of vegetable production, including seeding, planting, cultivating, harvesting, washing, packing, and farm market display setup. As much as possible, we work together in pairs or teams.
Desired Qualifications
- We encourage people of all interests and backgrounds to apply. Experience farming, gardening, or landscaping is a plus!
- Occasionally, you may be required to lift bins weighing 30-40 pounds. Ideally you’ll be able to do this, but it isn’t a deal-breaker.
- We expect crew members to be able to work a 6-hour shift in all weather conditions.
Preference will be given to candidates with relevant farming experience and interest in staying on more than one season, but anyone passionate about sustainably grown vegetables with a strong work ethic is invited to apply!
Timeframe: April/May-October (with possibility for late-fall & winter work if interested and available)
Hours: Our crew typically works a 6-hour shift from 8am-2pm, Monday-Friday. In peak summer, we may begin and end our days slightly earlier to beat the heat.
Pay: $16.50-$18/hr depending on experience, plus surplus vegetables, flowers, and kitchen goods (bread, cookies, pesto, etc!). Full time crew members receive a $50 stipend to spend on farming gear (rain jacket, muck boots, etc).
What You Can Expect:
- A fun, friendly environment to work and learn in. We strive to make this farm a place where people can be themselves and work together in pursuit of growing great vegetables for our community!
- Experience in all aspects of diversified vegetable production: harvesting, washing, packing, weeding, seeding, planting, trellising and more
- A mix of team-based and individual tasks, offering social work settings as well as time to listen to music or catch up on your favorite podcasts while you work
- Work in all weather conditions, including standing, kneeling, bending, squatting, and occasionally lifting
- Delicious fresh vegetables to eat, cook with and preserve, all season long
- Hard but rewarding work with a crew of interesting people!
What We Expect:
- Commitment. Our small farm depends on reliable labor. We understand that life is unpredictable, but we expect that crew members who sign on for a season stay for that entire season. And we look for crew members who are invested in the farm’s success and willing to work efficiently to get things done.
- Learning in a dynamic and varied environment. We grow a wide variety of crops in changing weather conditions, so tasks change throughout the course of the season. We are always looking for ways to improve our work and our produce, so we expect people to come ready to learn new things and share their ideas as well.
- Enthusiasm for the work! We are happy to share any and all knowledge and resources at our disposal to help people learn about cultivating, eating, and enjoying the vegetables we grow. We believe this farm is a one-of-a-kind place to learn about small-scale intensive vegetable production, and a great place to work with your hands in the soil.
Educational Opportunities: Pending crew interest, we hold monthly or bi-monthly potluck gatherings to connect, share food and discuss a farm topic of our crew’s choosing, with knowledge sharing from us or other nearby farmers.
Skills Desired: Preference will be given to candidates with relevant farming experience and interest in staying on more than one season, but anyone passionate about sustainably grown vegetables with a strong work ethic is invited to apply!
