General Farm Description: We have about 3 acres of land that had previously been used for growing bamboo, and are turning it into a year round market garden. The farm is part of a bigger property of land, about 5000 acres, that is used for cattle grazing. The farm is located next to Lake Jackson, just a few miles from Tallahassee.CRAFT Member Farm? No

Number of Internship Available: 3

Internship Details:
There will be various things to do, like a lot of weeding, planting, harvesting, etc. We sell weekly at an online farmers market.
Educational Opportunities: Farming in Florida is a bit more challenging than farming in most of the other parts of the country because of several factors such as high humidity, summer heat, various pests and other things. While Tallahassee has a different climate than South Florida, the summers still make it difficult to grow certain crops that usually do fine in more northern states. During your stay, you will see how we try to be successful in growing crops year round.
Skills Desired: Mainly looking for people who have an interest in farming, it’s ok if this is your first farming experience.
Meals: Prepared lunch on Mondays, Wednesday’s, Fridays. Will provide food for preparing your own meals at other times.
Stipend: Room and board in exchange for half a day’s work, but if someone was looking to earn a stipend by working full days, you might want to mention that during interview, as it depends on how many full time interns are living on the farm at the time.
Housing: Yes
