General Farm Description: Owned and managed by Elise Bortz, the farm hosts a 300 member CSA program and sells weekly at the Carrboro Farmers' Market. Next season we will be entering our 24th year in production. We utilize high tunnels, tractors, and the Paperpot Transplanter while growing on four acres of land. You will have the opportunity to learn how to grow food and operate a successful business while working on this farm. In 2024 there will be several return employees, we are looking for a few kind hearted and hard working people to round out this crew!

Internship Details:

A successful farm producing high quality produce for the past 23 years. We host a 300 member CSA program and sell weekly at the Carrboro Farmers’ Market. We offer $17/hour starting and are looking for 2-3 folks (full or part time) to fill out our 2024 crew. Please email a resume and cover letter to Elise at elysianfieldsfarmnc@gmail.com. Educational Opportunities: You will learn a lot about running an efficient and successful farm business by working at this farm. Seed propagation (greenhouse and field), transplanting (timing and successions), crop rotation, weed management, pest and disease management, cover cropping, soil fertility, harvest and post-harvest techniques, marketing and profit/loss budgeting.

Skills Desired: In search of mature interns with a strong work ethic. Experience can be helpful, but is not necessary. A positive attitude and commitment to doing good work is a must. You need to be enthusiastic about farming and learning, enjoy physical work in all kinds of weather and being tired at the end of the day. It is important that interns approach the work on the farm with a sense of urgency and attention to detail.

Stipend: $17/hour starting (Certified Living Wage Employer)
