Internship information
General Farm Description: Fairhaven Farm is a diversified fruit farm and apple orchard located in Fairhaven, MN  nestled between the St. Cloud and Twin Cities metro areas. The farm has been in operation for over 35 years as a fruit farm, transitioned over from corn and soy beans by owner-operators Marsha Anklam and David Macgregor. We have about 10 acres of apples, 2 acres of mixed fruit trees (pears, plums, and cherries), 1 acre of grapes, 3 acres of mixed fruits (raspberry, strawberries, currant, rhubarb etc), 3 acres of pumpkins, and about 1 acre of specialty cut flowers. We are open for pick-your-own flowers, grapes, raspberries, apples and pumpkins and have a retail space along with a commercial kitchen within our renovated barn. We do a little bit of everything including monthly farm dinners, a corn maze, a flower CSA, and developing our own apple varieties. Our aim is to share the magic of our 50 acres by focusing on exquisite flavors, top quality products, and environmental sustainability.

As a Farm and Field Assistant you’ll be mostly working in the orchard, with other fruit crops, and in our ornamental garden. However, you may also be asked to help in the cut flower field, the farmstore, and help with farm events if available. Responsibilities consist mainly of assisting with operational tasks on the farm such as planting, weeding, harvesting, general orchard maintenance and special projects such as building a deer fence. If available September – October you may be asked to run the cash register in our farmstore, assist with packing apples and keeping the farmstore stocked. This position is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in diversified fruit production (esp. apples), agricultural tourism, and learning what it means to operate a small yet profitable diversified farm. But it’s also a gratifying option for someone looking to work outdoors for a season. The position can adapt to different levels of experience whether new to farming or entering your fifth season.
